Abstract Strong acids used in industrial applications as cleaning, descaling, among others, can severely damage metallic structures, requiring corrosion inhibitors to diminish or avoid these issues. Since many conventional compounds used for this purpose may result in environmental and human health issues, eco-friendly compounds such as Schiff bases have been recently investigated. The synthesis of three novel Schiff bases (SBs) was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR). Weight loss measurements were carried out in 1 M HCl over 303K-333K. Furthermore, the combination of these compounds with a surfactant improved the efficiencies, reaching an efficiency of 93%. Optical and scanning electron microscopies confirmed the reduced roughness and pit depths of carbon steel samples. Density-functional theory calculations for neutral forms of SBs revealed that the geometrical and the energetical parameters are similar for the three studied SBs. The geometrical results exhibited more planar structures of protonated species, improving the chemical and physical interactions between aromatic rings and metallic atoms.

Abstract Background Controlling blood pressure and glycemic levels is a challenge that requires innovative solutions. Objective To assess the feasibility of implementing a text message intervention among low-income primary care patients, as well as to assess self-reported behavioral change. Methods A set of 200 text messages was developed on healthy eating, physical activity, adherence, and motivation. Participants from Vale do Mucuri, MG, Brazil diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension or undergoing screening for those diseases, received 5 to 8 messages per week for 6 months. They answered a questionnaire to report their satisfaction and behavioral changes. Results Of the 136 patients, 117 (86.0%) answered the questionnaire. Most reported that the messages were very useful (86.3%), easy to understand (90.6%), and were very helpful for behavioral change (65.0%); 84.6% reported that they had started eating healthier. The most frequent reported lifestyle changes were: improved diet quality (85.5%), reduced portions (65.8%), and weight loss (56.4%). The majority of patients shared the messages (60.7%) with family or other acquaintances, considered the number of messages to be adequate (89.7%) and would recommend the program to others (95.7%). Conclusion An intervention based on text messages to promote behavioral change in patients with hypertension or diabetes in primary care is feasible in low-resource settings. Future studies are needed to assess the program’s long-term effects on clinical outcomes.

Abstract The hybrids are responsive to phosphorus application, have high use efficiency and can produce high mean yields in environments with low and high phosphorus. RESUMO Pacientes oncológicos desenvolvem problemas cardíacos frequentes devido à toxidade dos quimioterápicos, com consequente impacto na capacidade funcional (CF) e na qualidade de vida (QV). O treinamento muscular inspiratório (TMI) pode ser um recurso terapêutico viável, já que estudos de causa-efeito demonstraram melhora da CF e da QV em outras populações. Contudo, seu efeito ainda não foi avaliado em pacientes cardio-oncológicos. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi descrever o efeito de um programa de TMI sobre a CF e a QV de uma paciente com cardiotoxicidade: LDM, com 41 anos, mulher e sedentária, que desenvolveu insuficiência cardíaca após tratamento quimioterápico. A QV foi avaliada pelo teste de Minnesota. Foram avaliados também a força muscular inspiratória dinâmica (S-Index) e o limiar glicêmico (LG) dos músculos inspiratórios. O LG foi determinado pela glicemia capilar por meio do glicosímetro digital (Accu-Chek - Roche) no menor valor da glicemia da carga correspondente ao teste muscular inspiratório incremental (TMII). A progressão da carga foi realizada a cada duas semanas. Ao final de dois meses, todos os testes foram reaplicados. No teste de Minnesota, os valores relacionados à CF, antes e após o TMI, foram de 36 vs. 8 (melhora de 78%); aos aspectos clínicos e psicológicos foram de 32 vs. 7 (melhora de 78%), a S-Index foram de 41 vs. 51cmH2O (melhora de 24%). O TMI melhorou a CF e a QV de uma paciente cardio-oncológica, configurando-se como um recurso terapêutico viável para essa população.

ABSTRACT Cancer patients develop frequent cardiac problems due to chemotherapy toxicity, which impacts functional capacity (FC) and quality of life (QoL). Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) may be a viable therapeutic resource since cause-effect studies have shown improvement in FC and QoL in other populations. However, its effect was not evaluated in cardio-oncology patients. The study aimed to describe the effect of an IMT program on the FC and QoL of a patient with cardiotoxicity, LDM, aged 41 years, female and, sedentary that developed heart failure after chemotherapy. The QoL was evaluated by the Minnesota test. Dynamic Inspiratory Muscle Strength (S-Index) and Glycemic Threshold (GT) of the inspiratory muscles were also evaluated. The GT was determined by capillary glycemia with a digital glucometer (Accu-Chek - Roche), at the lowest value of glycemia of the load corresponding to the Incremental Inspiratory Muscle Test (IIMT). The load progression was performed every two weeks. After two months, all tests were reapplied. In the Minnesota test, the values related to FC, pre and post IMT, were 36 v. 8 (78% improvement); the clinical and psychological aspects 32 v. 7 (78% improvement); S-Index was 41 v. 51cmH2O (24% improvement). IMT improved the FC and QoL of a cardio-oncology patient, configuring itself as a possible and viable therapeutic resource for this population.

RESUMEN Los pacientes con cáncer desarrollan problemas cardíacos frecuentes debido a la cardiotoxicidad de la quimioterapia, con el consiguiente impacto en la capacidad funcional (FC) y la calidad de vida (CV). El entrenamiento muscular inspiratorio (IMT) puede ser un recurso terapéutico viable, ya que los estudios de causa-efecto han demostrado una mejora en la FC y la CV en otras poblaciones. Sin embargo, su efecto aún no se ha evaluado en pacientes cardio-oncológicos. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio fue describir el efecto de un programa de IMT sobre la FC y la CV de un paciente con cardiotoxicidad: LDM, 41 años, mujer y sedentaria, que desarrolló insuficiencia cardíaca después del tratamiento de quimioterapia. La CV se evaluó mediante la prueba de Minnesota. También se evaluaron la fuerza muscular inspiratoria dinámica (índice S) y el umbral glucémico (LG) de los músculos inspiratorios. El LG se determinó por glucemia capilar mediante el glucómetro digital (Accu-Chek - Roche) al valor más bajo de la carga glucélica correspondiente a la prueba muscular inspiratoria incremental (IMI). La progresión de la carga se realizó cada dos semanas. Después de dos meses, todas las pruebas se volvieron a aplicar. En la prueba de Minnesota, los valores relacionados con la FC, antes y después de THE, fueron 36 vs. 8 (78% de mejora); los aspectos clínicos y psicológicos fueron 32 vs. 7 (mejora del 78%), el índice S fue de 41 vs. 51cmH2O (mejora del 24%). El IMT mejoró la FC y la CV de un paciente cardio-oncológico, constituyendo un recurso terapéutico viable para esta población.

ABSTRACT This study represents the first overview of the epidemiological dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 in Espirito Santo (ES) State, Brazil, filling in knowledge on this topic, observing data collected in the State, and aiming at understanding the epidemiological dynamics of the virus in ES, as well as its possible routes of transmission and dissemination. . Our results highlight that, so far, nine lineages have been identified with ES State. The B.1.1.33 lineage was the first with the highest occurrence in ES, remaining predominant until September 2020. The second predominant lineage was Gamma, representing 45% of the samples. The Delta lineage appears on the State scene, proving to be the next dominant lineage. This research allowed us to understand how the lineages advanced and were distributed in the State, which is important for future work, also making it possible to guide sanitary control measures. Data analyses were made through the GISAID database for ES State showed that the pandemic in the State has been evolving dynamically with lineage replacements over the months since the first notification.

Abstract The potential of the biome caatinga (exclusive from northeastern Brazil) has been evaluated in recent research for application in the pharmaceutical industry. Among the species of medicinal plants from caatinga, one can highlight the Commiphora leptophloeos (umburana), which has been used as infusions and syrups by the regional population for inflammatory and infectious diseases. Essential oils from umburana leaves and barks were obtained in a Clevenger apparatus and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, and total phenolic and flavonoids were determined by spectrophotometric analysis. It was observed that a large part of the major compounds present in the essential oil is described as having antitumor activity, enabling research in investigational oncology with umburana (C. leptophloeos). In addition, some little explored components have been identified, such as cadinene, alpha-selinene, and elemenone. Despite being easily found in several plants, there are no clinical trials involving their biological activity in a well-defined isolated form, which could make exploring new studies possible. Furthermore, the presence of phenolic compounds and flavonoids allows future studies about the potential antimicrobial and antioxidant activity.

Introduction and objective: Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is a genetic condition that alters the conformation of deoxygenated red blood cells, which results in their stiffening and the occurrence of vaso-occlusive crises, endothelium damage, organ dysfunction and systemic complications. Additionally, SCA limits the participation of individuals in physical and social activities. As we consider that physical exercise promotes the recovery of functional capacity and cardiorespiratory conditioning, we aim to verify the patterns of prescription, the effects and safety of exercise for individuals with SCA. Methodology: We systematically reviewed the published literature focusing on clinical trials that correlated physical exercise with SCA patients and cross-sectional studies that applied the stress test. The data research was based on the PRISMA recommendations and the following databases were used: Medline by PubMed, Cochrane, PEDro, Scielo. Results: Six studies which were based on the evaluation of 212 patients aged between 13 and 40 years, were selected from 122 identified studies. Those studies associated the individual effort tolerance improvement, its inflammatory profile adjustment and the absence of alteration in the autonomic nervous system activity to physical exercise or stress test. Conclusion: Low-to-moderate intensity physical exercise increased the SCA individual tolerance without causing vaso-occlusive crises, nor changes in the hemorheological and inflammatory profiles.

Abstract The UENF WS01 is a hybrid that has an early cycle and high grain yield capacity under low water and nitrogen availability. It maintains popping expansion even under abiotic stress, thus being recommended for cultivation in the North and Northwest of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

RESUMO A ocorrência da correlação negativa entre produtividade de grãos (PG) e capacidade de expansão (CE) no milho-pipoca contribui para dificultar o processo seletivo. No intento de contornar esse inconveniente, foi proposto, o caráter de importância, volume por pipoca expandida por hectare (VP). O objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver o nono ciclo da população UENF-14 de milho-pipoca, estimar o efeito direto e indireto de VP e averiguar o progresso genéticos entre todos os ciclos seletivos. Duzentas progênies endogâmicas foram obtidas e avaliadas em blocos casualizados, com arranjos em repetições dentro de sets, sendo nove sets, oito constituídos por 25 progênies e um set com todos ciclos anteriores (oito) com três repetições. Avaliou-se a altura média da planta, prolificidade, peso de cem grãos, produtividade de grãos, capacidade de expansão e volume por pipoca expandida por hectare. Realizou-se a análise de trilha para desdobrar os efeitos diretos e indiretos e o índice de seleção Mulamba e Mock para seleção de quarenta progênies superiores. Houve variabilidade genética entre as progênies para todas características. Existe relação de causa e efeito entre o VP com a PG e CE, permitindo ganhos simultâneos com a seleção indireta. A seleção das progênies superiores com a utilização do peso atribuído por alternativas proporcionou maiores ganhos preditos de VP (20,73%). As médias obtidas em todos os ciclos indicaram aumentos, demonstrando a eficiência do uso da seleção recorrente em programas de melhoramento de milho-pipoca.

ABSTRACT The occurrence of negative correlations between grain yield (GY) and popping expansion (PE) in popcorn complicates the selection process. In an attempt to overcome this inconvenience, we proposed the use of the importance characteristic volume per popcorn per hectare (PV). The objectives of this study were to develop the ninth cycle of the UENF-14 popcorn population, to estimate the direct and indirect effects of PV and to verify the genetic progress among all selective cycles. We obtained and evaluated 200 inbred progenies in randomised blocks arranged in replicates within sets, with nine sets consisting of 25 progenies and one set with all previous eight cycles with three replicates. The average height of the plants, prolificacy, 100-grain weight, grain yield, grain popping expansion and volume per popcorn per hectare were evaluated. Track analysis was performed to determine the direct and indirect effects, and the Mulamba and Mock selection index was calculated for the selection of the 40 superior progenies. There was genetic variability among progenies in all evaluated traits, with a cause-and-effect relationship between PV with GY and PE, allowing simultaneous gains with indirect selection. The selection of the best progenies was more effective when using arbitrarily assigned weights, which provided higher predicted gains for PV (20.73%). The means obtained in all cycles indicated increases, demonstrating the efficiency of using continuous recurrent selection in popcorn breeding programs.

RESUMO Uma das doenças fúngicas de grande importância que ataca a cultura do abacaxizeiro é a fusariose, causado pelo fungo Fusarium guttiforme. A utilização do Trichoderma spp, que são fungos habitantes do solo e de ocorrência natural na forma endofítica em bromélias, ainda não foi estudada visando o biocontrole da gomose do abacaxizeiro. O trabalho objetivou identificar espécies de Trichoderma endofíticos de bromélias em Restinga e avaliar o antagonismo in vitro e in vivo a F. guttiforme, agente etiológico da gomose do abacaxi. Foram avaliados 5 isolados de Trichoderma mantidos em armazenamento na Clínica Fitossanitária da Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (CF/UENF440, CF/UENF441, CF/UENF442, CF/UENF443 CF/UENF444). Um isolado de F. guttiforme patogênico ao abacaxizeiro também foi utilizado. Para identificação específica dos isolados de Trichoderma, efetuou-se a extração do DNA e o sequenciamento dos genes ITS. Procedeu-se a análise filogenética e os isolados endofíticos de bromélias foram agrupados na seção Longibrachiatum e, com baixa homologia dentre as espécies conhecidas, podendo tratar-se, portanto, de nova espécie, o que ainda será confirmado com a obtenção de novas sequências de genes específicos. Foram realizados testes de antibiose in vitro para avaliação e seleção dos isolados antagonistas (antagonismo em cultivo pareado, efeito inibitório de compostos voláteis, não voláteis e não voláteis termoestáveis) e avaliou-se o tratamento biológico de frutos de abacaxi com ferimentos, visando-se avaliar o biocontrole da gomose em pós-colheita. O isolado CF/UENF440 se mostrou como um potencial agente de biocontrole in vitro de F. guttiforme, pois demonstrou forte antibiose em co-cultivo meio de cultura, tanto para compostos não-voláteis quanto para não-voláteis termoestáveis, diferindo significativamente dos demais isolados testados e do controle. Na avaliação do biocontrole in vivo em frutos de abacaxi com ferimentos, os isolados de Trichoderma testados não apresentaram significativo efeito protetor no biocontrole da gomose em frutos na pós-colheita.

ABSTRACT One of the major fungal diseases affecting the pineapple crop is fusariosis, caused by the fungus Fusarium guttiforme. The use of Trichoderma spp., which are soil fungi naturally occurring as endophytic forms in Bromeliaceae, has not been studied for the biocontrol of fusariosis in pineapple plants. The present study aimed to identify Trichoderma species endophytic to Bromeliaceae in “Restinga” and to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo antagonism against F. gutifforme, the etiological agent of pineapple fusariosis. Five Trichoderma isolates were evaluated, which were stored in the Phytosanitary Clinics of the State University of North Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (CF/UENF440, CF/UENF441, CF/UENF442, CF/UENF443 CF/UENF444). A F. guttiforme isolate, pathogenic to pineapple, was also used. For specific identification of Trichoderma spp., DNA extraction and sequencing and of ITS genes were carried out. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted and the endophytic isolates from Bromeliaceae were grouped in the Longibrachiatum section, showing low homology among the known species, which may indicate a new species that will be confirmed with the obtaining of additional sequences of specific genes. In vitro antibiosis tests were then carried out to select antagonistic isolates (antagonism in matched culture, inhibitory effect of volatile, non-volatile and non-volatile thermostable compounds) and the biological treatment of wounded pineapple fruits was evaluated with the aim of assessing the biocontrol of fusariosis in the post-harvest. The isolate CF/UENF440 was shown to be a potential in vitro biocontrol agent of F. guttiforme since it demonstrated strong antibiosis in co-cultivation culture medium, for both non-volatile and non-volatile thermostable compounds, significantly differing from the remaining tested isolates and control. Considering the evaluation of in vivo biocontrol in wounded pineapple fruits, the tested Trichoderma isolates had no significant protectant effect in the biocontrol of fusariosis in post-harvest fruits.

RESUMO O milho-pipoca apresenta alta suscetibilidade a helmintosporiose (Bipolaris maydis) (h-Bm). O melhoramento genético desta cultura deve priorizar a resistência a h-Bm e desenvolver cultivares que ofereçam maior sustentabilidade ao cultivo, principalmente em solos com escassez de fósforo (P). O P-mineral normalmente é suprido à cultura do milho pela aplicação de adubos fosfatados, produzidos a partir de fontes de minério rico em P, cujas reservas naturais se esgotarão a médio prazo. Com o objetivo de selecionar genótipos de milho-pipoca resistentes a h-Bm e com maior capacidade de aproveitamento de fósforo (P), este trabalho avaliou a incidência e a severidade a h-Bm de 25 linhagens (S7) de milho-pipoca, cultivadas em ambientes de alto e baixo fósforo. Houve interação significativa entre genótipo (linhagem) e adubação de P para resistência a h-Bm, expressa pelos valores de severidade da doença na folha da primeira espiga. Observou-se variabilidade genética quanto à resistência a doença. A análise de incidência identifica as Linhagens L-65 L-69, L-70 e L-76 como genótipos potencialmente resistentes, apresentando baixos valores médios de h-Bm. A avaliação de severidade, no entanto, apresenta como potencialmente resistentes, as linhagens L-69, L-76, P-3 e P-7 tanto em ambiente com adubação de P quanto em ambiente sem a adubação. A união das informações obtidas mostra que as linhagens L-69, L-76 foram as que tiveram melhor desempenho quanto a resistência em ambos os ambientes. Conclui-se que a resistência genética a h-Bm pode, de algum modo, correlacionar-se com a resposta a adubação de P no plantio, em solos de baixa fertilidade natural.

ABSTRACT Popcorn culture is highly susceptible to helminthosporiosis (Bipolaris maydis) (h-Bm). The genetic breeding of this culture should prioritize resistance to h-Bm and develop cultivars that offer greater crop sustainability, especially in soils with phosphorus (P) scarcity. P-mineral is usually supplied to maize culture by the application of phosphate fertilizers, which are produced from mineral sources rich in P, the natural reserves of which will be depleted in the medium term. With the aim of selecting popcorn genotypes resistant to h-Bm and with higher P utilization capacity, the present study evaluated h-Bm incidence and severity for 25 popcorn lines (S7) cultivated under high and low phosphorus conditions. There was a significant interaction between genotype (lines) and P fertilization for h-Bm resistance, expressed as disease severity values in the first ear leaf. There was genetic variability for disease resistance. The incidence analysis identifies the lines L-65 L-69, L-70 and L-76 as potentially resistant genotypes, presenting low mean values of h-Bm. The severity analysis, however, presents L-69, L-76, P-3 and P-7 genotypes as potentially resistant in environments with fertilization and without fertilization. The obtained data show that the lines L-69 and L-76 had the best resistance performance in both environments. The genetic resistance to h-Bm can somehow correlate with the response to P fertilization at planting in soils with low natural fertility.

Abstract The intervarietal hybrid ‘UENF 506-11’ was derived from full-sib maize families in the 11th cycle of reciprocal recurrent selection. It produces a grain yield of 7.57 tons ha-1, and is recommended for cultivation in the North and Northwest regions of the Rio de Janeiro State.

Abstract Due to the great economic importance of coconut palm in Brazil and the development of a coconut breeding program intended to produce intravarietal hybrids, the present work aimed to ease the production of hybrids with the same morphological heritage. DNA was extracted from leaf samples of 13 dwarf coconut populations from Brazil, and PCR amplification was performed using 21 previously selected microsatellites. Furthermore, this study selected nine microsatellite markers with the potential to identify Green Dwarf x Yellow Dwarf hybrids and 16 microsatellites with the potential to identify Red Dwarf x Yellow Dwarf hybrids. In conclusion, SSR marker based on DNA Fingerprinting allowed the accurate identification of legitimate intravarietal hybrids since, for those crosses, the methodology of identification based on seedling color is not a viable alternative.

RESUMO Neste trabalho, objetivou-se verificar se a divergência genética entre as linhagens de mamoeiro, obtida por marcadores moleculares, é correlacionada com a heterose dos híbridos para características relacionadas à produção, qualidade de frutos e resistência a doenças. Oito genitores e 56 híbridos obtidos dos cruzamentos em esquema dialélico, foram avaliados em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Quantificaram-se o número de frutos comerciais (NCF), o peso médio do fruto (AFW), a produtividade (PROD), a firmeza do fruto (FIRM), o sólido solúvel total (TSS) e as severidades de pinta-preta em folha (BSS) e fruto (BSSFr), mancha-de-phoma (PSS) e oídio em folha (PMS) em folha. Estimaram-se as correlações entre a divergência genética obtida por SSR e a heterose estimada para cada característica em quatro possibilidades de cruzamentos dentro do dialelo: i) todos os cruzamentos; ii) entre genitores do grupo Solo; iii) entre genitores do grupo Formosa; e, iv) entre os genitores do grupo Solo com Formosa e Formosa com Solo. Os resultados indicam a possibilidade de se explorar a heterose tanto em cruzamentos entre grupo quanto em cruzamentos dentro de grupo. A baixa magnitude das estimativas de correlação entre heterose e características morfológicas dos híbridos com a distância genética obtida por SSR nos genitores, indica que não é possível fazer inferências sobre o comportamento dos híbridos a partir da divergência genética entre genitores.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to verify if the genetic divergence between papaya lines, obtained by means of molecular markers, is correlated with heterosis in the hybrids for characteristics related to production, fruit quality and disease resistance. Eight parents and 56 hybrids obtained from diallel crosses were evaluated in randomized blocks, with four replicates. The number of commercial fruits (NCF), the average fruit weight (AFW), the productivity (PROD), the fruit firmness (FIRM) and the total soluble solids (TSS) were evaluated, as well as the severity of black spot on leaves (BSS) and fruits (BSSFr), phoma spot (PSS) and powdery mildew on leaves (PMS). Correlations were estimated between genetic divergence, obtained based on SSR, and heterosis, estimated for each characteristic in four possibilities of crossings within the diallel: i) all crossings; ii) between parents of the ‘Solo’ group; iii) between parents of the ‘Formosa’ group; and iv) between parents of ‘Solo’ with ‘Formosa’ group and ‘Formosa’ with ‘Solo’ group. Results indicate the possibility of exploring heterosis both in crossings between groups and in crossings within groups. The low magnitude of the estimates of correlation between heterosis and morphological characteristics of the hybrids with genetic distance obtained by SSR in the parents indicates that the behavior of hybrids cannot be inferred based on the genetic divergence between parents.

RESUMO A aplicação de fungicidas é a principal medida de controle da pinta-preta do mamoeiro. O controle biológico é uma alternativa, sendo a seleção de fungos micoparasitas a primeira etapa em programas com essa finalidade. Objetivou-se obter e selecionar fungos com potencial para o biocontrole da pinta-preta do mamoeiro. Coletaram-se, em diferentes regiões e patossistemas, 24 isolados, os quais foram identificados morfologicamente e pelo sequenciamento da região ITS. Para avaliar o potencial micoparasita, conduziram-se, em telado, dois ensaios, em blocos casualizados, com três repetições, sendo os isolados obtidos inoculados sobre folhas de mamoeiro com lesões de pinta-preta. Avaliaram-se o tempo médio para o aparecimento dos sinais de micoparasitismo e a incidência de lesões de pinta-preta micoparasitadas. Dos 24 isolados obtidos, dez eram de Hansfordia pulvinata, dois de Lecanicillium lecaniium, dois de Simplicillium lanossoniveum, um de Sarocladium implicatum e nove de Acremonium spp. Observou-se ampla variabilidade dos isolados em micoparasitar a pinta-preta, com destaque para os isolados H-611, H-613, H-614 e H-615, por apresentarem as maiores médias de colonização. Os resultados permitem afirmar que H. pulvinata apresenta grande potencial para ser utilizado como agente de biocontrole de Asperisporium caricae.

ABSTRACT The use of fungicides is the main control measure against the black-spot disease of papaya. The biological control is an alternative to that, being the selection of mycoparasitic fungi the first step in programs aiming at this kind of control. This study aimed to obtain and select fungi with potential to the biocontrol of the black spot disease of papaya. For this purpose, 24 isolates were collected from different regions and pathosystems, and then identified morphologically and by the ITS region sequencing. In order to evaluate the mycoparasite potential, two assessments, in a randomized block design, with three replications, were carried out in a shadehouse, being the obtained isolates inoculated on papaya leaves with black spot lesions. The average time for the appearance of mycoparasitism signs and the incidence of mycoparasitized black spot lesions were evaluated. Of the 24 isolates obtained, ten were from Hansfordia pulvinata, two from Lecanicillium lecaniium, two from Simplicillium lanossoniveum, one from Sarocladium implicatum and nine from Acremonium spp. A wide variability, concerning the mycoparasitism on black spot lesions, was observed, especially for the isolates H-611, H-613, H-614 and H-615, which showed the highest colonization averages. The results demonstrate that H. pulvinata has a great potential to be used as a biocontrol agent against Asperisporium caricae.
